Growing up, I was always inspired by the story. My dad was the king of storytelling. He could capture an audience with his words and would leave a room in tears of laughter. Ma always read me stories and would let my mind wander through any imagination I could conjure. These are the things that truly shaped me to my core. People's stories have continued to fascinate me.
As an adult, I look for ways to convey stories. Most recently, it has been through costuming. I am slowly making my way around the country working at various theaters and organizations to help tell the story. I find the collaborative process of story making with other artists absolutely exhilarating. I have found my niche in the Crafts department. Millinery and craft work have become my primary skill sets. Seeing a character come to life through a hat or through the shoes on their feet brings a joy to my life that I never knew was possible. People become what they wear. Being a person who dresses these people, I feel like a new level of humanity has been revealed to me. I chalk it up to one more gained experience with another exciting spin on this thing called life.
My goal in the future is to continue to find the story and to follow the people who have one to tell. I don't know quite what that looks like yet, but I am so excited for the adventure.
